Chicken Offsets Promise Guilt-Free Chick-fil-A

Activist offers sandwich indulgences

Wikimedia/J. Reed

Chick-fil-A has its supporters, boycotters, and people who just don't care about the restaurant's donations to charities that oppose gay marriage. But what about the people who do care, yet find themselves unable to give up the chain's fried chicken sandwiches? D.C. lawyer and activist Ted Frank has decided to help them enjoy their chicken without feeling guilty by selling "chicken offsets" – donations to gay-friendly charities that theoretically buy off the guilt a person might feel from patronizing the chain.

"I posted on Facebook that donating money to gay rights causes did a heck of a lot more good than depriving Christian groups of $0.0001 by boycotting Chick-fil-A," Frank told The Huffington Post. "A friend joked 'Chicken offsets' in response, the domain name was open, and someone else would've come up with the idea if I didn't execute.

Frank's website at ChickenOffset.com went live last night, selling chicken indulgences for $1 per meal, or 10 meals for $6. Frank promises to donate at least 90 percent of every donation, after expenses, to It Gets Better and The Williams Institute.

As yet, nobody has purchased a chicken offset from him, but "Chick-fil-A is closed on Sundays," he said.
